Sister Maria Elena de la Luz, OSA

Mystic | Healer | Augustinian Scholar

Sister Maria Elena, known by many simply as “Mother Luz,” is a cloistered mystic turned spiritual educator whose luminous presence radiates wisdom, joy, and deep compassion. A member of the Order of Saint Augustine for over 25 years, she brings the flame of interiority and sacred longing into every room she enters. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, she joined the convent at age 19 after a spontaneous mystical experience during adoration, which she later described as “the moment my soul was kissed by eternity.”

She studied Theology and Psychology at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, then completed her Master’s in Christian Spirituality at Fordham University in New York. Her thesis explored the emotional landscapes of St. Augustine’s Confessions through the lens of trauma theory, making her one of the leading voices on how ancient spirituality meets modern healing.

At Lumen Terra, Sister Maria Elena leads immersive retreats on divine healing, emotional reconciliation, and the feminine face of God. Her style is poetic and profoundly embodied—she incorporates chanting, sacred anointing rituals, and dreamwork into her sessions. She is also certified in trauma-informed spiritual direction and uses tools from A Course in Miracles to guide participants toward radical forgiveness and inner light.
